Steve Johnson:

If suddenly you find yourself suffering from a gluten allergy you are not alone. It’s important to learn to live with a gluten allergy and the best way to do that is to understand the allergy.

With a gluten allergy your immune system will respond to the gluten which is found in a variety of foods that have the proteins found in cereal grains. The difference between a wheat allergy and a gluten allergy is,  Celiac is  a disease of the gastrointestinal tract.

Not everyone but a majority of people that suffer from a gluten allergy will develop Celiac which targets the gastrointestinal tract. In fact it wasn’t until recently when it was determined that Celiac was caused by a gluten allergy. Prior there had been no connection made.

A person suffering from a gluten allergy must ensure that they have a gluten free diet. When diagnosed with Celiac disease one must ensure that their diet is gluten free to ensure that the problems associated with Celiac are avoided.

When a gluten allergy turns into Celiac disease the biggest problem is that it does not just affect the gastrointestinal tract, it also affect the brain causing brain dysfunction, inflammation of the lungs, and arthritis.

The classic symptoms that accompanies a gluten allergy that has become Celiac is diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating, weight loss, iron deficiency, and malnutrition as a result of not absorbing the nutrient. And that’s just the beginning of what this dreadful disease can do.

For example a gluten allergy can actually affect the tissue causing eczema, skin rashes and itching, and it can even cause hives. It can also cause respiratory problems including asthma .

Arthritis will develop in about 45% of those suffering from a gluten allergy that do nothing about it and about 15% in those that change to a gluten free diet. Those with Celiac see an increased risk of esophagus, pharynx, and small intestinal cancer. Fibroid lung disease is also seen at a much higher rate than in those that do not have Celiac or a gluten allergy.

Recently studies have shown that a gluten allergy is often combined with a dairy allergy. If you know you have a gluten problem it’s a good idea to replace dairy products with soy products or some other alternative.

Be sure to include natural supplements in your diet when suffering from a gluten allergy. There are several things they can do for you. They can replace the nutrients you are missing because of a diet that is gluten free and they can help restore the body to health and build the immune system back up to a healthy state.

With a gluten allergy you want gluten free diet will have no wheat, barley, rye in any form. The best diets are made up of foods that are good for you and also foods that taste good. Try to make the changes so as not be depressed by a long list of what you can’t eat. Your gluten free diet should be comprehensive.

A gluten allergy can be a tough diagnosis to hear, but once you know what’s wrong it’s much easier to start making yourself feel better, by changing to a suitable diet.

James Penn:

Vitamins are very easy to find if you know where to look. Meats, grains, fruits and vegetables are all excellent natural sources of vitamins. As an added bonus, your body will typically absorb the vitamins found in foods more easily than those found in supplements. This article will discuss the top ten natural foods that contain important vitamins that your body needs.

Oranges

Oranges are not only jam packed with vitamin C, but they also contain potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. Vitamin C is commonly know to help prevent and cure the common cold and helps aid in iron absorption but has also been tied to the prevention of heart disease. Vitamin B6 is a powerful tool that aids your metabolism as well as other vital bodily functions.

Salmon

Salmon and other oily fish such as trout, orange roughy or sardines are all rich in vitamin A, D and two important B vitamins. Vitamin A is essential for your immune and reproduction systems.

Carrots

Carrots are heavy on the Vitamin A and also have a good amount of calcium and vitamin C. However, it’s important not to overcook them or all of the healthy vitamins and minerals will be cooked right out. Tossing a fresh carrot into your lunch bag is a great way to keep all those great vitamins right where they should be – in the carrot.

Spinach

Folic Acid or B9 is found abundantly in spinach. Folic acid is vital to pregnant women because it can help reduce the risk of birth defects in newborns. Spinach also has some other important nutrients such as vitamin A, C and E and should be eaten raw to get the most benefit from the nutrients it contains.

Blueberries

Blueberries are perhaps best known for their effects on memory. Studies have shown that the vitamin B compounds in blueberries help improve memory and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. They are also a great source for vitamin C.

Almonds

Almonds are chock full of calcium and vitamin E. Vitamin E is thought to help prevent certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases. It’s also a great source of calcium which helps build strong bones.

Broccoli

Vitamin K, A and C, calcium and fiber are all very abundant in broccoli and a good dose of broccoli once a week will help prevent cancer as well as help build strong bones.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower is hands down the best source for vitamin K, which is vital to your body’s ability to make your blood clot. It is also a good source of vitamin C, fiber and some great nutrients that are believed to help prevent certain cancers like breast and prostate cancer.

Beans

Beans are a great source of folate which is great for cell formation. Iron is also found in beans which helps keep your energy up. Other important substances in beans can help prevent cancer, reduce the risk of diabetes, aid your circulatory system and help control your weight.

Apples

An apple a day may just keep the doctor away. Apples are a great source of vitamin C which will help boost your immune system. However, studies have shown that apples also contain other vital properties that help boost your immune system in ways that vitamin C supplements can’t.

Wiley Long :

Vitamin B-12 is an essential nutrient, but humans cannot depend on the absorption of bacterially-produced B-12 from the gut. Thus, our B-12 must come from food.1

The B-12 synthesized by bacteria is mainly concentrated in the bodies of predatory organisms, so meat, milk, eggs, fish, and shellfish all contain B-12. 2 Comparatvely, the B-12 in eggs seems to be the most poorly absorbed among these sources.2

Some plant foods, such as blue-green algae (cyanobacteria), contain large amounts of B-12, 2 but the B-12 compounds in algae appear to be inactive in mammals.3 Most of the blue-green algae used for human supplements predominately contain pseudovitamin B-12, which is inactive in humans.2 Cyanocobalamin, also used in most supplements, is readily converted to the coenzyme forms of cobalamin in the human body.4

The major signs of B-12 deficiency are megaloblastic anemia and neuropathy.5 Since the bioavailability of crystalline B-12 is not altered in people with atrophic gastritis, the Institute of Medicine has recommended that adults over the age of 50 should get most of their recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of B-12 from foods that are fortified with crystalline B-12 or B-12 supplements.5

While the RDA of B-12 for adults is 2.4 mcg/day in the United States and Japan; the daily loss of the vitamin is estimated to be between 2 and 5 mcg/day.5 Bor et al.6 reported that a daily B-12 intake of 6 mcg/day appears to be sufficient to maintain a steady-state concentration of plasma B-12 and B-12 related metabolic markers. However, B-12’s bioavailability significantly decreases with increasing intake of vitamin B-12 per meal. 2

Studies with vegans have shown that despite the physiological recycling and conservation that become increasingly efficient as B-12 intake falls, the likelihood is high that B-12 deficiency will eventually develop. This may only develop after 20 years or more in vegans who do not consume any animal-based products or take B-12 supplements.7

In summary, the inability of humans to absorb bacterially-produced B-12 in the colon, and the evidence that vegans will eventually show negative B-12 balance8,9 indicate an evolutionary history of animal-based foods in human diets.

10 powerful health reasons why you need to know more about Limu Moui

“Knowledge of the oceans is more important than just a matter of curiosity. Our very survival may hinge upon it.” President John Kennedy, 1961

What is the preventative health value of sea plants or vegetables, as exemplified by Limu Moui? What do you know about this wonder plant considered to be the 3000 year old health secret of the South Pacific? To best value and respect Limu, it’s important to relate it to a wider “concept-map” in the context of 10 reasons, each reason comprising major fields of studies but which are only mentioned here.

ONE: THE RICHEST COMPLEX BIOME ON EARTH…THE OCEAN. Physically and chemically, it covers ¾ of the Earth’s surface and houses 15,000 plants and 210,000 known marine life forms. The nutrient profile, developed through eons, which nurtures these living forms are estimated between 60 and 100 different elements. Scientists have yet to manufacture in a lab a bottle of sea water and if they could, it would probably cost thousands of dollars. Most interesting, the elements that circulate in the ocean are similar to what is found in human plasma. Our body is 70% salt water with blood containing all the minerals and trace elements found in the ocean.

TWO: MARINE MACROALGAE or seaweed. These range from forests of 212 foot kelp to microscopic plankton. Three kinds of seaweed are brown, red and green, at least 50 varieties of which are used as food. Seaweed lack true stems, leaves or roots but have strong anchoring supports from which to absorb ocean nutrients through their plant tissue. It is the food chain for all marine animal life such as fish which is still the major source of protein for millions of people. Seaweed agricultural industry is growing to supply alginates especially for food, pharmaceutical and industrial uses.

THREE: BROWN ALGAE CALLED ANGEL HAIR SEAWEED or LIMU MOUI. It grows along shorelines and in vast fields as masses of filaments that grow 1 to 2 feet a day to lengths of 20 feet. Limu is considered one of the most nutrient dense foods, easier to process and more bioavailable than larger broad leaved forms of brown algae with a lot of fiber. One of the best wild sources of Limu Moui comes from the archipelago of Tonga, arguably the most pristine uncontaminated area consisting of 170 islands, few which are inhabited. The Tongan people routinely consume Limu and have long been known for their superior longevity, disease resistance and overall body strength.

FOUR: SPECTACULAR NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF SEA PLANTS (ex. Limu)

They’ve been prized for dietary and medicinal food properties for millennia; and science can now validate them as rich sources of proteins, enzymes, amino and fatty acids, vitamins and anti-oxidants, glyconutrients, polyphenols, and alginates. For example, briefly consider the mineral riches of ocean plants that can re-mineralize our bodies. The major minerals are found: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sulfur. A wealth of trace minerals are also absorbed: boron, chlorides, chromium, cobalt, copper, fluorine, gallium, germanium, gold, iodine, iron, lanthanum, lithium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, selenium, silica, silver, sodium, zinc, tin, vanadium plus at least 40 more. Moreover, these minerals are in natural colloidal and organic or chelated forms(combined with amino acids) and easily absorbed through cell walls unlike metallic minerals that can accumulate in body tissues. Most enzymatic functions depend on minute amounts of bioavailable trace minerals; one key to maintain health is keeping the mineral levels in balance in every tissue, fluid, cell and organ. Without minerals for transport, vitamins are ineffective. As soils become minerally depleted, the seas are looked upon as more minerally enriched.

FIVE: THE OCEAN’S GIFT …AN ESSENTIAL BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUND CALLED FUCOIDAN. This unique molecule is found only in the cell walls of certain brown sea plants (even some echinoderms). However, Tongan Limu has one of the highest Fucoidan concentrations. In nutritional chemical terms, Fucoidan is described as a sulfated polysaccharide molecule made up several different polymers and “decorated” with sulphate groups. Research shows that the higher the count of sulphate groups in a plant, the higher its unique therapeutic value. In layman’s terms, it is the Fucoidan that gives Limu its slippery texture…a moisture protection barrier that allows the algae to survive in harsh environments. What if Limu and Fucoidan may just be the extra nutritional fuel we need to better cope with an increasingly toxic environment?

SIX: ONE OF THE MOST ANALYZED and VALIDATED SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES OF OUR TIME… FUCOIDAN

Most bionutritional research is relatively new and exciting (seconds old on a 24 hour medical timeline). The synergy of hundreds of phytonutrients or natural biochemicals found in individual plants reveal a wide array of beneficial biological benefits for cellular health. For example, in the last 8 years, nearly 400 more studies have been added to the previous 300 on Fucoidan as the medical community has wondered how it appears to address some major health concerns, including many that seem to confound modern medicine.

SEVEN: EMPOWER YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

“Whether or not a person contracts any disease or illness has less to do with their exposure to that disease and much more with how effectively their immune system is functioning at the time they are exposed…(World Health organization.) Our own first-line defense is our innate immune system programmed to protect against chronic health problems and premature aging. More ongoing research is aimed at multi-targeted therapies to better understand how the body can naturally recuperate, protect or heal itself when given total nutrients and healthy immune system (versus monotherapies or using one substance to treat a single symptom.) The health benefits of Fucoidan, particularly, in supporting the immune system such as stimulating natural killer cells and B-Cells are well discussed in independent, third party, peer reviewed studies.

EIGHT: SCIENCE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

No medicinal claims are allowed with natural plants so it’s important that you challenge yourself to be your own serious health detective. One can’t assume to have all the answers to better health while walking away from this unprecedented research. Three best references are:

—Breakthroughs in Health (Wellness Success Media Oct.2006)

—The National Library of Medicine (government’s database) www.pubmed.org

Enter fucoidan in the search box. Then enter specific conditions and note the number of studies. Example: Fucoidan anti-inflammatory (22 studies)

viral (10) blood (274) liver (31) digestive system (40) bacteria (79) cancer (53) stem cells(24) heart (11) brain (30) kidneys (11) skin(16)

NINE: CHOICE OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENT

This choice is one of your most important health decisions which must verify three things: from where it’s sourced, how the contents are manufactured and what scientific studies endorse it. Current market trends are embracing whole food extracts as synergistic, non synthetic, non-fractionated super food supplements. Sometimes it’s hard to trust a plethora of labels and advertisements, but you can trust what Nature has composed without laboratories and private enterprises. In its natural edible form, Limu offers remarkable nutritive, immune-building and disease-fighting properties. As an extract, it promises an even wider variety of therapeutic applications.

TEN: RETURN TO NATURE’S BASICS. What would you prefer as you grow older…a vibrant healthy lifestyle or a hopeless daily struggle against aches and pains? Health is a lifelong process of prevention and commitment to wellness. Believe the good news that your body’s programmed to be healthy…sickness is an unnatural state. Feed every cell a full spectrum of nutrients daily. Respect Nature’s biology, ecology and immemorial wisdom and how you are an essential part of it.

Anita Cherry :

Green tea has been in use in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine, it has been used for centuries as a stimulant, astringent and to improve heart health. It is an effective remedy for rheumatoid arthritis, and certain immune deficiencies. Research by the scientific world first confirmed it’s health benefits only about a decade ago.

One main advantage is that it comes cheaper than many medicines and it is herbal. It has been researched a lot. Research shows that the most powerful antioxidant compounds in it are the polyphenols. They are flavonoids (catechin, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG), and proanthocyanidins). Catechins in it are over 200 times more powerful than vitamin E and helps in neutralizing the pro-oxidants and free radicals that attack lipids in the brain. Catechins are also more potent than vitamin C. It is rich in vitamin C. EGCG is said to be brain permeable, and it protects the brain.

Green tea and alzheimers

EGCG decreased production of beta-amyloid, a protein that forms the plaques that clog the brains of Alzheimer’s victims. Drinking more than two cups of it a day could cut the risk of dementia by half, had a 50 per cent lower chance of having cognitive impairment, compared to those who drank less than three cups a week. A British study found that drinking it inhibited three important brain-harming chemicals: acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, and beta-secretase. They are associated with breaking down chemical messengers and forming plaques and protein deposits in the noggin’s gray matter which hinders clear thinking.

Green tea and arthrosclerosis

Artherscloerosis will initiate heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. Green tea has been extensively tested and been found to be highly beneficial in the reduction of blood pressure and aiding the recovery of heart attack victims. It also inhibits the unnatural formation of blood clots which have been known to cause thrombosis and stroke. Drinking it represses angiotensin II which leads to high blood pressure.

Green tea and autoimmune disorder

It protects from autoimmune disorders like xerostamina. It helps in reducing auto antigen levels in healthy cells while not in tumor cells and thus protecting the healthy cells.

Green tea and cancer

It helps in fighting as well as preventing cancer. Cancer is lower in countries where they drink lots of green tea. EGCG inhibit cancer by blocking the formation of cancer-causing compounds and suppressing the activation of carcinogens. It also inhibits cancer cells from growing. It binds to a specific enzyme called dihydrofolate reductase, in the body. Egcg helps in killing cancerous cells and stops its progression without attacking normal cells. There have been many studies that have shown that catechins in it are effective at preventing cancer. It helps in fighting bladder cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer,

Green tea and cholesterol

Drinking it helps to keep cholesterol on a healthy level by its inhibitory effect on the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and promote its excretion from the body. It also helps against clot related strokes. At least 5 cups a day are recommended.

Green tea and diabetes

People who drink lots of green tea or coffee every day could lower their risk of diabetes by 33 percent. Green tea polyphenols and polysaccharides are good in the reduction of blood sugar. The researchers who conducted test on rat concluded that results clearly show intervention with it can significantly decrease visceral fat deposit and increase insulin sensitivity.

Green tea and liver disease

Those who drink it daily are less likely to get disorders in the liver. It also appears to protect the liver from the damaging effects of toxic substances such as alcohol. It may help treat inflammation of the liver. , protecting fatty livers from injury while reducing liver fat content by about 55 percent protect patients recovering from liver transplant. It can be a useful supplement in the treatment of liver disease and should be considered for liver conditions in which pro inflammatory and oxidant stress responses are dominant.

Green tea and skin care

It is anti-bacterial and helps in fighting acne and reduces inflammation. It protects the skin from the damage caused by ionizing radiation and aids in detoxification.

Green tea and weight loss

It helps in boosting metabolism and burn fat. It has thermogenic attributes which helps to raise the body temperature and burn calories up to 80 calorie daily. It also helps in fat oxidation. It helps in weight loss without raising heart beat. The thermogenic compound in green tea is caffeine. Other similar components in it that boost metabolism are theobromine and theophylline even though they are found in only small quantities . Recommended dose is 5 cups daily

Green tea and viral infection

EGCG strongly inhibited the replication of the HIV virus by blocking the binding of HIV envelope glycoprotein to human CD4 molecules on human T cells. Since this is, the first step in HIV infection it helps in preventing the first step in HIV infection. L-theanine in green tea triggers our body to produce 10 times their normal output of virus-battling interferon. Even gargling with it is effective when you have flu . They have strong antibacterial qualities.

Green tea side effects

Its extract has shown to be non-toxic but excessive amounts of caffeine from it may cause irritability, insomnia, heart palpitation, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache, loss of appetite, dizziness and nausea. . It has been in use for 5000 years and not much side effects noted other than caffeine content in it. If you are wary of caffeine you can take a decaffeinated green tea.

What is Co Q10

Co Q10 is an oil-soluble vitamin-like substance that plays a role in the body’s production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the basic energy component of the human cell. It was first discovered in 1957, since then it has been supplemented as an antioxidant (a role in the neutralizing of harmful free radicals in cells) but has also been studied for a variety of health conditions.

Co Q10 for Headaches

Supplementation of coenzyme q10 has been found to have a beneficial effect on the condition of some sufferers of migraine headaches. So far, three studies have been done, of which two were small, did not have a placebo group, were not randomized, and were open-label, and one was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, which found statistically significant, results despite its small sample size of 42 patients. Dosages were 150 to 300 mg/day.

Co Q10 for Heart Disease

There is some clinical evidence that supplementation with co q10 is beneficial treatment of patients with congestive heart failure. However, The American College of Cardiology recently published an expert consensus document concluding that the value of co q10 in cardiovascular disease has not been clearly established. The Mayo clinic says that there is not enough scientific evidence to recommend for or against the use of co q10 in patients with coronary heart disease.

Co Q10 for Cancer

It is also being investigated as a treatment for cancer, and as relief from cancer treatment side-effects. Another recent study shows a survival benefit after cardiac arrest if co q10 is administered in addition to commencing active cooling (to 32-34 degrees Celsius). There are several reports concerning the effect of co q10 on blood pressure in human studies.

Co Q10 for Metabolic Disorders

Supplementation of co q10 is a treatment for some of the very rare and serious mitochondrial disorders and other metabolic disorders, where patients are not capable of producing enough co q10 because of their disorder. Co q10 is then prescribed by a physician.

Kaede S. Cruise asked:

Dr. Joseph Mercola has been practicing natural healing methods for over two decades. His website, Mercola.com is known as one of the most popular natural health websites in the world.

Mercola.com provides the latest developments in the world of medicine, including the most controversial issues.

One of those creating the most buzz is Bill C-51, a new bill proposed by the Canadian government earlier this year which is threatening to drastically affect the neighboring country’s health climate.

Among the questionable changes Bill C-51 will bring if passed into law include shortening the process for approving new drugs. Also, with the current rate of drug licensing failure in Canada, around 70% of natural health products will be illegal, allowing government agents to sanction those who are merely sharing a “therapeutic product” with someone else.

So if you’re an American, why should you care?

If Canada adopts C-51, it will allow trade agreements, like the Codex Treaty, to be passed into law without approval from the Parliament. The United Nations-supported Codex Alimentarius Commission has classified nutrients as toxins. The United States has backed Codex to use a Risk Assessment, branch of toxicology, to determine the maximum level of a substance, including nutrients, which may be ingested without any visible biological effects.

Codex has been working to impose a universal maximum “safe” level on every legally produced, used and sold food supplement – vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc. – with “safe” signifying a level with NO physical effect.

The safety of supplements is likely to become evaluated using the toxicology scale if Codex guidelines become part of Canadian law through Bill C-51, putting pressure on the U.S. and Mexico to adopt the same regulations.

The domino effect sparked by Canada’s possible adoption of this bill may lead to millions of Americans not being able to use natural products to improve their health and treat certain illnesses.

Can you imagine not being allowed to use products like garlic, a therapeutic food, or Vitamin C tablets if the U.S. was to follow Canada’s lead?

Read more about this topic and other issues at Mercola.com or send your questions and reactions at Ask Dr. Mercola.

Tibor A. Palatinus asked:

Vitamin C supplements and other Natural Health Products — NHP used by the majority of Canadians, would have questionable access to Canadians due to C 51.

C 51 would force many nutrients and health supplements to be banned from Canada because of impossible to pass regulations that C 51 introduce. Bill C 51 also permits other countries with trade to Canada, to ban medicines and supplements from sale in Canada through the Codex Alimentarius. (see bottom link to articles and Video on the International Trade Commission of Codex Alimentarius)

I educate people about natural health supplements and have been using Natural Health Products (NHP) for 30 years. I almost never get sick and I always feel great. These are the benefits of inexpensive NHP to Canadians before C 51.

Vitamins supplements and nutrients are now available to Canadians at low prices and are accessible to any Canadian. C 51 would prevent Canadians to buy many natural medicines, herbs and supplements. C 51 will also make my favorite vitamins, minerals and super foods very expensive and not accessible to me. C 51 endangers my personal health.

C 51 Will Reduce Canadians Access To NHP

I use NHP freely in Canada and don’t require drugs to improve my health, the few times I wasn’t feeling well. I know the key to health is in my own choices to live and eat right. C 51 assumes that I don’t know what is right for me. Health Canada via Tony Clement, Health Minister proposed C 51 wants to deny my freedom to choose my health plan.

C 51 has the goal of putting NHP out of the reach of Canadians. C 51 will result in banning the sale and distribution of many NHP.

C 51 proposes to put ALL Natural Health Products, Chinese Medicine, healing devices through required expensive tests and authorizations which are not accessible to Canadians. The access is either through foreign countries, or by very expensive testing.

Who Benefit$ By Passing C 51?

The only individuals who stand to financially gain are those who want more people sick, using drugs, dieing or dead. That means anti-social individuals and groups may think they profit when more people start dieing. Pharmaceutical drug pushers lead by psychiatrists pushing made-up psychiatric disorders could financially gain by C 51.

The cost of NHP and Chinese Medicine could skyrocket with C 51. (See the article in Vitality Magazine via website at bottom link).

One of the consequences of C 51 that would operate under the trade conditions of Codex Alimentarius is the banning of food into countries. It’s interesting that recently thousands of pounds of high density nutritional biscuits were banned from entering Myanmar (Burma) as a relief effort to prevent survivors from starving to death. (Watch full video on bottom link to find out why)

Please share this information to any Canadian that values their natural health and benefit by unrestricted access to food and NHP. Phone your MP and tell him/her to protect your rights of free choice to your NHP and vote against C 51.
